How Value-Added Taxes Threaten American Prosperity
June 3, 2009From my column out this week with the American Issues Project:
Even in Texas, state senator John Carona, R-Dallas, pinned on more taxes to guzzle up your hard earned dollars with a proposed gas tax of 2-cents, 4-cents, 6-cents, 8-cents or 10-cents per gallon, a mobility fee of up to $60 on vehicle registration and up to $48 for a new drivers license fee.
Texans fought back and the group Texans for Fiscal Responsibility delivered over 800 letters from these Texans to fight the new fees and taxes, those fees and taxes were ultimately defeated by the Texas Legislature but that still leaves an obvious question—if families are struggling enough as it is, why make it worse with higher taxes rather than cutting wasteful spending and providing across the board tax reform?
Legislators and activists like those who fervently fought the gas tax in Texas must continue to fight the growth of government and increased taxation to guarantee a prosperous United States of America.
