I love me some Jack Bauer.

January 11, 2009

But I’ve got no love for:

Janeane Garofalo (FBI analyst Janis Gold)

Her background: Stand-up comedian; character actress in films; a one-year stint on Saturday Night Live, a lengthy West Wing arc and a memorable turn as Paula on HBO’s Larry Sanders Show.

How it happened: “I got a call from (24 co-creator Joel Surnow). I was initially very reticent to do it, because I heard about the right-wing nature of Joel’s politics and the torture-heavy scripts. And then I thought, ‘I’m unemployed!’ “

Her character: “I’m very similar to Chloe, but I’m more of a team player. I have grudging respect for her computer talent; I secretly have a professional crush on her for her skills, even though we have a contentious relationship. I don’t understand that Jack is necessarily a good guy, so I don’t agree with how she helps him and doesn’t follow procedure.”

Her issue: As with Jones, for Garofalo it’s the torture thing. “I still find it reprehensible.” (A former Army interrogator has said that soldiers mimic interrogation tactics seen on the show.) “That our own administration borrowed ideas from 24 is such a tragedy.”

But those actresses will do anything for money won’t they? :)

In other news, I’m watching 24 right now.

One Industry We’re Not Crying About…

January 11, 2009

Oh the economic woes!  Michelle Malkin gave us the scoop on Planned Parenthood‘s attempt at survival during the economic turmoil:

Hit with declines in funding from the economic crisis and the Madoff scandal, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America is laying off around 20% of its staff.

I wonder if staff like this were included in the lay off….
