Worst Husband of the Year Award

August 8, 2008

None other than John Kerry’s former running mate, Democrat Senator John Edwards. My sentiments go out to Elizabeth Edwards, though we don’t agree politically I hope that she is coping with this difficult time and fighting off that cancer. Best wishes, Mrs. Edwards.

As for you, John Edwards:

John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extramarital affair with a novice filmmaker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.

In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he loved only his wife, Elizabeth.

“Two years ago I made a very serious mistake,” Edwards said, blaming the prominence of being a vice presidential candidate. “All of which fed a self-focus, an egotism, a narcissism that leads you to believe that you can do whatever you want,” he said.

Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test. He said he would be happy to take one.

Sorry hon, tell it to your hairdresser. You don’t do that to someone you love. As far as blaming the prominence of being a vice presidential candidate….well, WE knew you weren’t ready to lead but now you’ve proven it even more.

I guess he doesn’t subscribe to the whole “most ethical and open congress” thing either.

What did Ann Coulter report only days ago in her Townhall.com column?

The mainstream media’s reaction to the National Enquirer’s reports on John Edwards’ “love child” scandal has been reminiscent of the Soviet press. Edwards’ name has simply been completely whitewashed out of the news. Say, why isn’t anyone talking about John Edwards for vice president anymore? No, seriously — hey! Why are we going to a commercial break?

The most interesting piece of Coulter’s column:

Based on information currently saturating the Internet: (1) The entire schmaltzy Edwards campaign consisted of this self-professed moralist telling us how much he loved the poor and loved his cancer-stricken wife; (2) the following was Edwards’ response to CBS News anchor Katie Couric’s question about whether voters should care if a presidential candidate is faithful to his spouse:

“Of course. I mean, for a lot of Americans — including the family that I grew up with, I mean, it’s fundamental to how you judge people and human character — whether you keep your word, whether you keep what is your ultimate word, which is that you love your spouse, and you’ll stay with them. … I think the most important qualities in a president in today’s world are trustworthiness — sincerity, honesty, strength of leadership. And — and certainly that goes to a part of that.”

Yet another classic case of Leftist “do as I say not as I do” mentality.

And thanks Newsbusters for uncovering the irony:

UPDATED:

Hat tip to Ben Smith of the Politico for pointing out this story, John Edwards on the Lewinsky scandal:

I think this President has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen.

And finally a gem in its own.  Inside the mind of a liberal staffer:

A former aide is more understanding of his deceit: “He was running for president. What’s he supposed to do? Admit it?”
