Hate Crimes?

July 9, 2007

From the San Antonio Express News…

”Prosecutors here complain that the law poses the difficult hurdle of proving that suspects are motivated by hatred, and similar concerns have also been heard regarding federal hate crime law, with prosecutors and civil rights groups complaining that the bar is set too high.”

Another case of the need for equal protection of the law.

A crime is a crime.  Regardless of the motivation, if the crime is heinous, it’ll prove itself in court to be heinous.

All people deserve to be equal under the eyes of the law, regardless of race, religion, etc.  Hate crime legislation like this makes certain cases supersede others because of race, religion, etc.  Perhaps we should seek out stronger penalties for all felons and murderers, not just a fraction of those.

Hate crime legislation makes these cases more difficult to prosecute.

Stop Pandering to Hispanic Interests!!

July 9, 2007

Expanding and improving the quality of early education for Texas’ Hispanic population should be among our highest educational priorities.

What about the whole equal protection under the law thing? Are we really teaching students to be separated by ethnic classes?!

Then again what’s to be expected of liberals–always demanding equality, but never willing to be equal.

Hispanic children lag well behind their non-Hispanic white counterparts on measures of school readiness when they start kindergarten.”
Rhetoric like this is a breeding ground for why affirmative action and other race/ethnic centered educational initiatives are racist talk! As a Hispanic I never needed any special attention to make it through school and I’m still going after my bachelor’s degree.

Much like the rest of the Hispanic community would agree…it’s time to actually fix public education in Texas and not blame the problem in some sort of ethnic diversion and playing the victim as minorities.
